value in birdseed than the grocery, discount, and feed store blends.

Most commercial blends contain a very large percentage of filler grains (milo, wheat, and/or “grain products”). The majority of our Wild Birds do not eat these filler grains.

You will commonly see these undesirable filler grains laying on the ground, around the bird feeder, and then eventually sprouting in your yard.

These blends may look like a good buy at first glance, but more than half of the ingredients is left to waste. Not only is this a poor value, it’s really messy!

Your Wild Bird Center does not use filler grains in any of its seed blends.

What do our wild birds like to eat?
Songbirds, which include Cardinals, Chickadees, House Finches, etc., love a variety of sunflower, safflower, and peanuts. Songbirds in our area do not eat any of the small grains. Ground feeding birds, such as Doves, Juncos, & Sparrows, prefer the white and red proso millets (these are the tiny round seeds, not the large round filler grains).

Should there be added vitamins in wild birdseed!
NO. If your birdseed is fresh it is already packed full of vitamins and nutrients.

Vitamins and vegetable oils are commonly used as preservatives.

They are found in commercial blends that are stored for long periods of time in warehouses.
