The Grand Re-opening of this Timonium store will kick off as soon as doors open at 10:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on Saturday). Visitors will be free to claim a 2-pound bag of Wild Bird Center's BirdWise Blend (tm) birdseed and get 20% off any Droll Yankees® tube bird feeders. There will also be a "Guess the M&M's" Contest and sign-up prizes for young and old alike. The customer with closest guess of how many M&M's are contained within a Wild Bird Center MoBi Mesh® feeder gets to take home the feeder, M&M's and a 25-pound bag of Wild Bird Center seed. Sign-up prizes include a Double Tail Prop Suet Feeder, a Droll Yankees® tube bird feeder with a seed tray and a new pair of Bushnell Natureview binoculars. For the kids, sign up prizes include a plush Audubon bird, a Wild Bird Center Nest box kit and a squirrel hand puppet.
The grand re-opening celebration's main event will be a presentation of "Live Birds of Prey" by birds of prey expert Mike Dupuy on Saturday, September 6 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Master Falconer Mike Dupuy teaches, instructs and demonstrates the 4,000-year-old art of falconry. His humorous and informative style is sure to capture the imagination of any age group. Imagine the magic of watching a wild bird of prey with its 3-foot wingspan swoop down from the high trees and land gently on Mike's outstretched hand!
Timonium has enjoyed its own Wild Bird Center since March of 1997, dedicated to enhancing area residents' enjoyment of backyard birds and outdoor living. The Northern Maryland area is a wonderland of nature with multitudes of species of birds and many scenic places to view them.
The Wild Bird Center store is now owned and operated by John and Sue Sala. Mr. Sala, who originally hails from Massachusetts and took over the management of the center in April of this year. "We are fortunate to have beautiful birds here in Northern Maryland", John Sala said, "and our goal is to help people attract and enjoy them." To this end, Mr. Sala and his wife Susan have overhauled the design of the Timonium store, re-stocked the shelves with new birding merchandise, and made new special discount offers and monthly bird watching trips available to entice local customers.
Mr. Sala conducts his monthly birdwalks to nearby Cromwell Valley Park . There, local birdwatchers (expert and novice alike) are exposed to a wide variety of birds in a peaceful, almost pastoral setting.
“Last time we went on a bird walk through Cromwell Valley Park,†said Mr. Sala, “we got to see deer, take a stroll through a lane filled with bluebird houses, and catch glimpses of hawk and falcon nests in their natural habitat. For the people in our group who were new to bird watching, it was a very gratifying experience.â€
Mr. Sala's next bird-watching tour is scheduled for Saturday, September 13. He encourages people of any age and level of experience to attend. All that is required is a phone call beforehand to get the precise details.
"Stop in soon to say hello and to share your experiences," said John Sala. We hope to make the Wild Bird Center of Timonium the resource for all your birding needs. We look forward to seeing you!â€
