Baby squirrels and migrating birds

This morning I finally saw some activity in my squirrel house.   Five baby squirrels crawling around the tree where we mounted a squirrel house a few years ago.  They don't jump when they're really young so they just explore the tree carefully crawling.  Then they go in and out of the big cedar box where they were born.  It's purely for our pleasure to see young ones and parents peeking out to see what's happening in our backyard.  I've never had squirrels damage anything so I can happily observe their antics. I think watching nature this time of year is better than any movie or TV show.

This week the migrating warblers and thrushes have awakened me with their unusual songs.  At the top of a very tall spruce I watched Yellow rumped warblers eat bugs off the needles.  And closer to the ground I saw a couple Swainson's thrushes and a Black & white warbler.  I also finally saw a hummingbird at one of my feeders.  Tomorrow I'm planting the hummer and butterfly attracting plants that I bought from Bustaniplantfarm.com.  Last year these plants kept the hummers in my yard all summer - for the first time in 13 years.  Thanks to one of my customers who shopped at this Stillwater Oklahoma nursery and suggested great plants for the hummers.  I can't wait to see who's new in my yard when I return home.
