Let it snow...let it snow...let it snow

We finally got our first snowfall of the season this week, and there is lots of activity at our bird feeders! This is such a great time of year to enjoy our birds - with snow on the ground and trees you can really see them. Interesting fact: birds shiver not necessarily because they are cold, but to keep themselves warm. Some birds even grow more feathers as the weather turns colder. In fact, a chickadee normally has 1,000 feathers and that can sometimes increase to over 2,000 in winter! So keep your feeders filled and your baths heated. Your birds will appreciate it and you will enjoy watching the winter activity!

The chickadees are loving the bird seed in our feeder by our front yard window, along with the beautiful cardinals. The birds seem to have abandoned the feeders out back, so I moved them to the front. The deer come every night and finish off the left over seed and eat the squirrel corn. My husband and I have spotted a flock of about 3 dozen robins when we walk our dogs. They hang out in the woods behind the GTS office building on 91! Amazing! Just saw them again this morning!
