Change of season

Written by Bob and Carol Zollars of Wild Bird Center

This week as I drove to the store from Fairlawn, I've marveled at the beautiful autumn colors that seem to get more brilliant with each passing day. This change of season is a wonderful time in northeast Ohio, not only because of the fall foliage. We begin to look forward to the winter birds that will be arriving in our area soon. Before too long we'll notice the familiar dark eyed juncoes and tree sparrows, and maybe red breasted nuthatches and pine siskins at our feeders. You might even see something more unusual, like a brown creeper (on a tree), an evening grosbeak or a white throated sparrow. When the leaves fall from the trees it's a little easier to spot these winter visitors, so if you see something you don't think you've seen before, check your bird guide. In the meantime, enjoy the lovely fall colors, and anticipate some changes at your feeders!
