Last night we were treated to a family of bluebirds splashing around in our bird bath. All 4 of them looked like they were having a great time, dipping from beak to tail. fluffing their feathers and shaking the water around. Also visiting the bath were chickadees, finches and titmice. We also have a dripper right above our bath, which creates motion in the water thereby making it even more attractive to birds. During the winter you can place a heater at the bottom of your bath, which keeps it just warm enough so that it doesn't freeze. Or we have heated baths, too, that you can clamp to your deck rail. Either way, winter is an especially important time to have water available for your birds here - it's more difficult for them to find water that isn't frozen over. If you don't have a bird bath in your yard you should really consider putting one in. Not only does it provide a needed source of water, it's just plain fun for us humans to watch!
