Juncos come out of the hills

Written by Candace Stuart of Wild Bird Center
October 22, 2009

Although we had several reports at the store of juncos last week, they showed up in north Lowry yesterday.

Nicknamed "snow birds", they usually appear in the Denver area with a storm....it snowed and rained all day in the metro area.....

In my landscape they spend time around the more untended areas of the yard , hopping around bushes, shrubs and areas where leaves have accumulated. They were happy to have the Cheepers Blend, hulled millet, and nyjer I scattered for them on the paving stones in the front and the patio in the backyard. This morning they seem to be sleeping in..but a large Eurasion collared dove is sitting in the hackberry.
