Wild Bird Center Saturday Morning Birders

An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day -- Henry David Thoreau

March 6, 2010.  Sunny and warm.  40°F. 0-5 mph.  13 participants.

The birds were singing and active. Spring is here (at least until the next big snow storm). We saw lots of territorial singing and some nest building by the magpies. We even watched a flicker excavating in a cottonwood. Lots of change in activity this month.

February 27, 2010. Sunny. 30° F. Winds calm. 2 participants.

It was a slow day for participants and birds. The lack of open water is still impacting our birding. On the other hand, there were many red-winged blackbirds perched prominently singing and red-tailed hawks near nests. Signs of spring. We have been getting reports of mountain bluebird activity also.
Sorry I haven’t gotten the list out the last two weekends. Last week we had a cold walk in the snow along Boulder Creek. My 7 years old, Charlie, was with me. He didn’t see a lot of birds, but he had fun rolling in the snow. Two weeks ago, Wild Bird Center Staffer, Bill Eeds, led the walk. Thank you Bill.
